Reflections and Projections

This time of year, I often catch myself reflecting and projecting.  Not only on business, but also in my personal life.

What did I do right?

What did I do wrong?

What do I need to be sure to do again next year?

What can I do better next year?

I don’t know about you, but there are several things that pop up on that list year after year, that just never get done.  All we can really do, is try to focus on those that are most important and do the best we can.

Below are just a few things that I faced personally, or working with many of you advisors, during this past year, that perhaps you did as well, that we can both work on together to improve on in this upcoming year.

  • Put permanent life insurance on your children and tell all of your customers to do the same.

This is not to make parents wealthy, should their children pass away!  This protects that child’s future life insurance needs, in the event they become medically uninsurable during their lifetime.  It is also a great gift to pass along to them when they become adults, especially paid up permanent life insurance.

  • Tell everyone you know and meet that you sell Life Insurance!

I’m not talking about wearing a name tag that says, “Hi, my name is Bob, and I sell Life Insurance!”  When they ask what you do, TELL THEM.  I’ve been in the life insurance business for almost 30 years, and it still amazes me the people that I have know for years, don’t know what I do.  They’re going to buy it somewhere.   Might as well be from you.

  • Tell those around you how much you appreciate them and what they do for you.

This could be your staff at work, your spouse at home, or you children.

  • Make a business plan, modify as you go, but stick to it!
